Report

In 1956 the Canadian Football League broke away from the Canadian Rugby Union, and played as a stand-alone league. The winners of the Grey Cup that year were Edmonton Eskimoes 50-27 versus Montreal Alouettes. In 1957 Hamilton Tiger-Cats won 32-7 against Winnipeg Blue Bombers to take home the coveted cup, although in 1958 Winnipeg got revenge, triumphing 35-28 over the Tiger-Cats. The Blue Bombers repeated in 1959, winning again against Hamilton, this time 21-07. In 1960 The IRFU renamed itself the Eastern Football Conference and its’ Champions the Ottawa Rough Riders defeated Edmonton Eskimoes 16-6 in a low-scoring game to win the Grey Cup. The Western Interprovincial Union was renamed the Western Football Conference in 1961.

About

The Canadian Football League was formed in 1958 when the Western Interprovincial Football Union and Interprovincial Rugby Football Union broke away from the Canadian Rugby Union, and adopted more American Football style pf play. During the 1950s it can be seen as a AAA Football League, becoming a Major League in 1960 with the adoption of an inter-locking schedule and the renaming of the Western Inter-Provincial Football Union and the Inter-Provincial Rugby Football Union as the Western and Eastern Conferences.

Report

For its 8th season the American 7s Football League expanded beyond its New Jersey/Maryland origins to establish divisions in California (San Diego, Los Angeles and Riverside) and Florida (Tampa and Orlando). After four weeks of the 2021 season Paterson U and Trenton BIC were top of the New Jersey Division and Baltimore Cobras and Baltimore Gators were topping the Maryland Division. All four teams had a perfect 4-0 start. In the California Division Los Angeles Aces were out in front on 3-0 and in Florida it was Tampa A-Team and Orlando Ghosts who were leading with 2-1 records.

About the A7FL

The American 7s Football League is a no-pads, no-helmets tackle American Football League that was codified ion New Jersey in the 2000s. It was intended to be both a codified version of the pick-up games played in parks across USA and also to bring American Football back to its early hard working-class roots from the glamour and extravagant money involved in the modern game. It is 7v7 and with similar rules to Arena Indoor Football. It is also Semi-Pro State Football League based with leagues based in local areas in and around State Boundaries.

Report

Three High Schools with Irish Connections have become National Football Champions (American Football) in USA in the last 20 years. In 2004 Colerain Cardinals, from Colerain, Cincinnati, Ohio, named after the town of Coleraine in Co. Derry, Ireland, were National Champions, and the two following years, 2005 and 2006, Carroll Dragons from Southlake in Texas, were Champions, with Carroll being an Irish surname from the Co. Louth area. Bishop Gorman High School, which proudly declares itself the home of the Gaels in Las Vegas, Nevada, and also proudly the oldest Catholic High School in the entire state, won the National Championship in 2016.

Report

The United Arena League was founded in 2020 as a follow on from Supreme Indoor Football in the South of USA. It cancelled its inaugural season due to Coronavirus Pandemic concerns and is scheduled to start its first season on 8th May 2021, featuring three teams: Georgia-lina Lions, Peach State Cats and Palmetto Colts, with Inter-Conference play scheduled against Southern Steam of Eastern Indoor Football and Carolina Predators. Palmetto Colts are based in Palmetto, Florida; Georgia-lina Lions are based in Augusta, Georgia and Peach State Cats are based in Cumming, Georgia.

Peach State Cats opened the season with a 42-26 victory over Georgia-lina Lions. The following week they thrashed the Palmetto Colts 55-0.

About Indoor Football

Indoor Football, also known as Arena Football was developed in 1986 as an 8v8 form of Indoor American Football. After an initial few seasons where the game was developed with a 4 team league, a full seasons League with eventually over a dozen teams was developed in the 1990 which was considered by the Wall Street Journal to be a fifth major.

The Arena Football League over-expanded in the 2000s with a Minor League, and its importance (and number of teams) waned since it first experienced financial diffulties  in 2009, and it ceased operations after the 2019 season due to the legacy debt incurred.

There is now, however, Indoor Football Leagues all over America, all of which would now be considered Minor League or Semi-Pro (AAA, AA, or even A)

Indoor Football is played on a 50-yard field with two 8-yard endzones, and teams have 5 downs (attempts) to reach the endzone or the ball is turned over. 3 of those downs must be passing plays, making Indoor Football highly explosive and high scoring.
