Report

The Colored World Series was not played from 1929 to 1936. The American Negro League reappeared in 1929, although with the effects of the Great Depression, Both the Negro National League and Negro American League had disbanded in 1932 to be replaced for that year only by the East-West League and the Southern Negro League. The Southern Negro League had a team called the Little Rock Travelers, from Arkansas. The conditions of Irish Travelers has often been compared to that of African-Americans. In 1933 the Negro National League returned, although there was still no Colored World Series as the American Negro League did not reappear until 1937.

With Segregation in American Sport as with practically all parts of US Society at the time, the top African-American Sportsmen played in the Negro Leagues as they called themselves at the time. These Baseball Leagues were the National Basketball Association of the time, equal with the Major Leagues as we know them today, although excluded from playing from them due to their skin colour, race or ethnic background.

From interviews with fans conducted by Dick Clark and Larry Lester of the Society for American Baseball Research it can be seen that they saw the Leagues as Eastern and Western Leagues, even though most Leagues went by the name Negro National League and American Negro League. The Statistics gleaned from what was reported in the newspapers give only a partial record, and show the top players were the equal of the top players in Major League Baseball at the time, something which has been recognised recenltly (2021) by MLB.

The term Negro for African-Americans has fallen out of favour in recent times, much like the term Tinker for Irish Travelers, whose conditions have often been compared to African-Americans. It has been kept here and by MLB to prevent re-writing of history.

There were many players with Irish surnames or family names on the teams, perhaps as many as two dozen in 1920 alone.

The Negro National League and American Negro League returned in 1933 and lasted until 1952 as Major Leagues (although only until 1946 are recognised as such by MLB when Jackie Robinson became the first ever African-American to play in Major League Baseball when he played for the Montreal Royals).

Report

Kansas City Monarchs won the Colored World Series in 1924, Hilldale in 1925 and Chicago American Giants in 1926 and 1927, the only years during this period it was played. There was no league in 1932, the most difficult year of the Great Depression.

Those who won the Colored World Series from 1924 to 1927 are listed below. Hurley McNair, Walter Moore, Harold Morris, and Wilber Rogan of Kansas City Monarchs in 1924, Luther Farrell of Hilldale in 1925, and George Harney of Chicago American Giants in 1926 and 1927.

Report

Given the recent round of North American Sports Teams announcing they are changing their nicknames due to offence caused to Native Americans and the power of the “Black Lives Matter” movement, Eirball wonders if these groups will “Take Back” the names and use them as a source of Pride in the their own leagues. Washington Redskins, Cleveland Indians and Edmonton Eskimoes recently announced they are dropping their moniker in favour of something more appropriate.

In this scenario by 2050 there will be a World Football League with a return of teams such as the Washington Redskins, Kansas City Chiefs, Edmonton Eskimoes (CFL), CDMX Mexicas (Mexico City), Mayas (LFA Mexico), The Hawaiians and Birmingham Americans (WFL 1974-1975), Austin Texans, Memphis Southmen and Birmingham Americans (USFL 1983-1985) as well as Baseball Teams Cleveland Indians, Atlanta Braves; Ice Hockey Teams Chicago Blackhawks, Vancouver Canucks, Quebec Nordiques; and Basketball Team Boston Celtics; NCAA team Notre Dame Fighting Irish.

In addition National Football League teams which have never settled anywhere in America or developed a sense of identity shall move around the World: London Ravens, Berlin Colts, Moscow Raiders, Rome Cardinals, Johannesburg Chiefs, Jerusalem Oilers, Tokyo Chargers, Sydney Rams, Delhi Bengals, Rio de Janeiro 49ers, Havana Browns and Toronto Buffaloes (Bills). New teams Kenyan Crimson Tide, Lima Incas and Dublin City storm to be added to bring the League up to 32 teams. These teams will be owned, staffed and played by Native players.
