Report

Iceland’s sole American Football team, Reykjavik Einherjar, played two games over 2016-17, losing narrowly by one point to Eidsvoll 1814s, one of Norway’s top teams, and then defeating German Division 5 side Starnberg Argonauts 48-14. Quarterback Bergbor Phillip Palsson was the driving force behind the team.

To top off a great year for Iceland’s only American Football Team, the Reykjavik einherjar, the NFL’s Minnesota Vikings paid them a visit. The Icelandic team finished the 2017-18 season with a 2-2 record, losing to England’s Ouse Valley Eagles and Austria’s Carinthian Lions, but defeating Spanish Division 1 side Mallorca Voltors and Swedish Semi-Finalists Uppsala 86ers.

Rejkjavik Einherjar, Iceland’s only American Football Team, just got better and better in their third season, 2018-19. After destroying Germany’s Cologne Falcons 50-0, and then triumphing confortably, 56-22 over Sweden’s Tryeso Royal Crowns, they faced their stiffest test yet, when they travelled to New York to take on Semi-Pro side Empire State Wolfpack, losing 36-7. They then finished the season with a 28-42 loss to Finland’s Runners-Up, Kuopio Steelers.

Report

After a number of seasons as a Northern and Southern Junior Two-Touch League, the Junior Gridiron League became a National Flag Footbal League in 1995 with two sections: Youth (9-15 year olds) and Junior (14-18 year olds). This followed from the successful introduction of Flag Football to the JGL Junior League in 1994.

The 1995 JGL Youth Flag Football Final was won by Plymouth Commodores, 1914 over the Northwestern Redskins. Northwestern opened the scoring in the second quarter with a short run. Barry winter then ran 70 yards for Plymouth’s first Touchdown as time ended in the first half. The Redskins took advantage of good field position in the third to score again, and convert to go 14-6 up.

Barry Winter then replied for the Commodores on a 63 yard pass on a halfback option, with Andrew Wilcock dodging several tackles on his way to the endzone. Winter, who was voted MVP, then scored on a two yard run to seal victory for the Devon club. Winter even kicked the extra point as he put in a special all-round display.
