In a major boost for the newly independent country, Slovenia won the Malta International Tournament in January 1994. The Alpen Republic defeated both Georgia and Malta 1-0, and drew with African power Tunisia 2-2 to collect the trophy.

Egypt won the Pre-World Cup Sharjah Tournament in the United Arab Emirates in 1994, with two 1-0 wins over Slovakia and hosts United Arab Emirates after a 1-1 draw with Morocco. Morocco were runners-up and Slovakia third.

All three of Egypt’s goals came from Hossam Hassan.

Gavin Murdock had two wins on the first Irish Harness Racing Association 2020 raceday at Annaghmore on 11th July, Alan Wallace Snr and Jnr got one win each on the 25th July, Billy Roche had two wins on the 12th September as did Patrick Kane Jnr on the 3rd October, although that day belonged to John Richardson, who rode four winners.

The Irish Kenpo Karate Union Open 2019, held in Dublin featured fighters from Scorland (Yamakai) and Wales (Welsh Karate Kai) as well as Ireland.

In the Girls Kumite, Kaizen Ireland won three Gold Medals, IKKU took two Gold Medals, and 3 Rivers and Yamakai (Scotland) one each. In the Boys Kumite, IKKU won two Gold Medals with 5 Clubs winning one each (Kaizen Ireland, Wadokai Ireland Karate Association, WSKF Ireland, 3 Rivers and Claudy Karate Club).

The Female Cadet to Junior Section saw two of the five Gold Medals go to IKKU, with WSKF Ireland, Pat Rockett Martial Arts Waterford and 3 Rivers obtaining one each. In the Male Cadet to Junior Section IKKU won four Gold Medals, Yamakai from Scotland won one and Kaizen Ireland one.

The Senior Female Gold Medals both went to IKKU (Shauna Mullaney and Justyne Collins), while in the Male Senior Conor O’Sullivan (WSKF Ireland) and Greg Macauley (Yamakai – Scotland) took the two Gold Medals. In the Male Senior Novice there was one Gold Medal on Offer, won by Rory O’Riordan IKKU), and in the Male Veteran, Eamonn Yore (Ireland Wadokai Kartate Association) took the one Gold Medal on offer.

Report

Switzerland won the Carlsberg Challenge in 1993, defeating hosts Hong Kong XI 3-2 in the Final after knocking out Japan on penalties in the Semi-Finals. Denmark Under-21 finished third with a 2-1 defeat of Japan.

The Carlsberg Challenge was a Tournament featuring top East Asian National teams, as well as National Youth teams and Club teams from more established European Nations and also African National teams. It was held in Hong Kong every Spring.

The East Asian Football Federation is a Sub-Federation within the Asian Football Confederation, covering the East Asian Nations of Japan, South Korea, North Korea, China, Mongolia, Hong Kong, Macau, Taiwan (Chinese Taipei) and Guam.

Report

Hosts Malaysia won the Merdeka Tournament with a 3-1 victory after extra time in the Final against South Korea. Both had won their Semi-Final against a fancied European Club side (CSKA Sofia of Bulgaria and FC Aarau of Switzerland) who had finished top of the two four-team groups.

Other entrants were fellow ASEAN Football Federation members Thailand, Singapore and Indonesia as well one of the best African Nations, Ghana.

The Merdeka Tournament was a Tournament featuring top South East Asian National teams, as well as National Youth teams and Club teams from more established European Nations and also African National teams. It was held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, every summer.

The ASEAN Football Federation is a Sub-Federation within the Asian Football Confederation, covering the South East Asian Nations of Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore, East Timor, Brunei, Thailand, Vietnam, Camodia (Kampuchea) & Laos.
